HIGHLAND WOW! HAMILTON PARK PREPARES FOR FAMILY EXTRAVAGANZA

As Lanarkshire’s premier racing venue, Hamilton Park is no stranger to a racehorse or two but this July visitors will discover a lot more than horses parading the grounds.

Say hello to the first ever Sunday Mail Highland Show Racenight as the racecourse plays hosts to a family-friendly showpiece event on Saturday 9 July.

A fantastic day out for all the family and the first Super Saturday fixture of 2016, guests will be treated to a full day and night of unbeatable racing and entertainment as the racecourse is transformed into a Highland Show style playground for all the family.

The venue will be divided into specially created zones each with their own unique attractions.

Highlights include the Children’s Fun Zone with a host of free rides and attractions including a giant inflatable activity area, bungee trampolines, inflatable laser tag, coconut shy, hoopla, beat the goalie, disco dome, an assault course and a supersize circus candy slide.

The Animal Zone will feature a mini petting zoo with snakes, frogs and much more, pony rides from 1pm until 6pm, falconry displays and impressive Jackton Clydesdale horses.

The Main Arena will showcase fantastic Highland dancing, live BMX stunts, gun and sheep dog trials, sheep and duck herding as well as the Clydesdale horses.

A Food & Drink zone will play host to the best local food and drink Scotland has to offer. Feast on delicious free donuts and fantastic produce such as Scottish cheeses, jams and chutneys, breads and pate from supermarket Morrison’s Market Street – home of delicious, fresh produce. Equi’s Ice Cream, McGhee’s Bakery, Scavi & Ray Prosecco and H Blin Champagne will also be on hand with some fantastic sampling.

Get involved in the interactive machinery zone with tractors and farm equipment, and a Jackal armoured vehicle (developed for the British Army and Royal Air Force Regiment),  or pop over to see official car partner Taggarts Motor Group  showing off their newest Land Rover and Range Rover models.

Vivien Kyles, Chief Executive at Hamilton Park Racecourse, said: “Every year we like to surprise and delight our visitors with a new experience and we think our Sunday Mail Highland Show Racenight will do just that. From birds and bikes to ponies and dogs – the venue will be a hive of activity from start to finish.  The entire racecourse is being totally transformed for an entertaining and educational agricultural showpiece. Each of our zones will offer something different while the main arena on the lawn will feature fantastic live and interactive displays throughout the day, with live music after the racing.  This will all be topped off with the usual high quality racing on the track and the best action beamed from courses up and down the country direct to our screens around the site.  There is something for all the family at this event – with free admission for all under 18s –   admission includes a great day’s racing and all of the activities on offer. Tickets are already selling fast so I’d urge anyone thinking of coming along to book now.”

Away racing, which will be shown on screens around site, will include Ascot, Chester, Newmarket and York in the afternoon with Hamilton Park’s own racing action starting at 6.15pm (gates open at 12noon) with a racecard worth over £40,000.

After racing guests can dance the night away to the fabulous Soul Kings who will be playing the hits of 70’s disco and Motown in the main arena. The event is the first in the series of the bold new Super Saturdays concept which features three distinct race days – each has their own unique identity and turns the traditional evening fixture on its head by becoming much more than just a night at the races, with gates opening at 12 noon.
