MARK WALFORD was all smiles after Candesence scooped the £35,000 Sky Bet Sunday Series Sprint at Hamilton Park.

Ridden by Dougie Costello, the 9-1 chance saw off Fine Wine by a length and a quarter and the Yorkshire trainer said: “It’s taken a little while for her to get the hang of things but she’s been better at six-furlongs this year. She’s won more than she cost today and the prize money is pretty amazing. On her last two runs at Wolverhampton she wasn’t beaten far so it’s good to get her head back in front.”

Mark and Charlie Johnston landed the Sky Bet Sunday Series 3YO Sprint with I’m A Gambler, ridden by Ben Curtis.

“He was a two-time course and distance winner prior to today and he clearly like the track,” Mark Johnston said. “It’s a fantastic card with tremendous money and it shows off Hamilton Park to a lot of people who may not have known just what can be done.”

Keith Dalgleish struck at his local track after Haizoom took the Sky Bet Sunday Series Stayers Handicap in the hands of Sam James.

Winning owner Stuart Morrison said: “Keith told me he thought she would win as she was very fizzy and fresh when seventh here last Sunday. If her mark doesn’t go too high there might another opportunity for her in this excellent series.”
