Racing Report

BEN CURTIS was in great form on Hamilton Park’s Jubilee Bank Holiday Raceday when he rode a 79-1 treble on Coco Jack, Snazzy Jazzy and Savvy Knight.

The middle leg, sent off at 14-1 and trained by Laurence Mullaney, won by a neck in a thrilling finish to the £30,000 Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Clyde Handicap

Malton-based Mullaney said: “To be fair he’s a horse that has been highly-tried since he came to us and he has dropped a fair bit in the weights. He’s never recouped what he cost in one race today and he could be back for another crack at the Wokingham at Royal Ascot for a race at York after this but we haven’t made any firm plans.”

Harry Russell and Astapor sprung a 200-1 shock in the Book And Save At hamilton-park.co.uk Novice Stakes for Lancashire trainer John Richies.

“The horse didn’t know what price he was and I barely saw another rival,” Russell said. “His trainer rang me this morning and said he has plenty of speed so I made plenty of it.”

Only Equinoctial has been sent off a bigger price in Scotland when obliging at 250-1 at Kelso in 1990.

Dumfriesshire trainer Iain Jardine saddled a double with Havana Party and Kats Bob.

The former led home stablemate Bashful in the Exclusively Yours Weddings At Hamilton Park Handicap while the latter took the Come Racing At Hamilton Park Handicap under a power-packed rode from Andrew Mullen.
