To help commemorate Hamilton Parks centenary year, we are celebrating 100 years of racing at Hamilton Park by honouring the people, horses, and moments that have shaped the racecourse since its opening in 1926.
This Hall of Fame brings together the key figures from the past century, from visionary founders and influential leaders to champion trainers, record-breaking jockeys, and unforgettable horses who have defined generations of racing at Hamilton Park. Their combined legacy reflects the evolution of the racecourse from its early beginnings into one of the UK’s most respected independent venues.
As we mark this milestone year, we reflect on the achievements that have built our story, while recognising the lasting impact these individuals and horses continue to have on Hamilton Park today.

Sir Ian Good
“Chairman (1999–2023) — Long‑serving Chairman of Hamilton Park who oversaw major developments, helped grow the racecourse into one of the UK’s leading independent venues, and had the grandstand renamed in his honour to celebrate his decades of service to Scottish racing.” > Read more
William Wilson McHarg
William Wilson McHarg became Managing Director in 1973, ushering in a new era for the racecourse. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Hamilton Park Trust and spearheaded significant modernisation efforts, including the introduction of starting stalls to enhance racing operations.

Sir Charles Loftus Bates
Sir Charles Loftus Bates was one of the founding figures behind the development of the new Hamilton Park at Bothwell Road following the First World War. Working alongside his partners, he helped raise £100,000 to establish the racecourse, which officially opened in 1926.

Lord Hamilton of Dalzell
Lord Hamilton of Dalzell was a joint founder of Hamilton Park, playing a key role in its vision, funding, and establishment ahead of its opening in 1926.

Colonel T. Robertson Aikman
Colonel T. Robertson Aikman was a key figure alongside Bates and Lord Hamilton who helped revive racing in Hamilton after WWI, raising essential funds and securing a site to rebuild the racecourse that survives to this day.
Harold Oswald
Architect responsible for designing key elements of the Hamilton Park infrastructure between 1920 and 1938, contributing to the layout and buildings that supported the track after its 1926 opening.

Mark Johnston
Current Chairman of Hamilton Park and Hamilton Park’s winning‑most trainer whose success includes 5 Lanark Silver Bell wins, 6 Glasgow Stakes wins and 261 wins in total here with a 20% strike rate.
TRAINERS

Jim Goldie
A leading Scottish trainer and multiple-time Champion Trainer at Hamilton Park, he has become one of the most influential local handlers in recent years. He has held the Champion Trainer title at the course for the past four consecutive seasons. In 2025, he celebrated a major milestone with his 1,000th flat winner, 158 of those victories coming at Hamilton Park.

Ian Jardine
Scottish trainer who has successfully competed at Hamilton Park, notably training Sepal to win the prestigious Lanark Silver Bell Handicap in 2017 and Paddy the Squire winning the same race in 2025. Ian has had 71 winners at Hamilton Park.

Keith Dalgleish
Former jockey and Carluke-based trainer with strong local ties to Hamilton Park. Keith had 125 winners at Hamilton Park before he stopped training in 2023.

Arthur Balding
A Yorkshire trainer with a long-standing connection to Hamilton Park. In 1987 a six-furlong race was named in honour of Arthur Balding, of which Hamilton Park have commissioned a memorial cup in his honour.
HORSES

Red Cadeaux
Red Cadeaux won the Listed William Hill Braveheart Stakes at Hamilton Park in May 2011, marking his first Class 1 victory before going on to become an international star, earning nearly £5 million during his career. Today, his legacy is celebrated at Hamilton Park with a dedicated Red Cadeaux Wine Bar.

Wickywickywheels
Wickywickywheels won the Lanark Silver Bell Heritage Handicap at Hamilton Park in 2022, becoming the first winner of the race since its elevation to a £100,000 Heritage Handicap.

Sea Pigeon
In 1980s Sea Pigeon, later a Champion Hurdle winner, claimed victory at Hamilton Park, ridden by the owner’s son, Steve Muldoon.

Postponed
Postponed won the Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton Park in 2014 before going on to an outstanding career at the highest level, landing four Group 1 victories including the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Juddmonte International.

Jordan Electrics
Jordan Electrics has become one of Hamilton Park’s most successful horses, holding the joint record for the most wins at the track with nine victories and earning a reputation as a true course specialist under trainer Jim Goldie.

Iris Dancer
Iris Dancer trained by Tristin Davidson, has matched that of Jordan Electrics, also securing nine wins at Hamilton Park, making them the winning most horses in modern Hamilton Park history.

Tifernati
Tifernati won the Lanark Silver Bell Handicap at Hamilton Park in 2008, becoming the first winner of the revived Silver Bell in the modern era. The horse was trained by William Haggas.
Soba
On 21 May 1982, the flying filly Soba gained the second of her 14 career wins at Hamilton Park. She went on to capture the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood the following July, showcasing the calibre of horses competing on the track.

Subjectivist
Subjectivist won the EBF Glasgow Stakes (Listed race) at Hamilton Park in 2020, ridden by Joe Fanning and trained by Mark Johnston. Following his victory at Hamilton, he went on to achieve major success at the highest level, including wins in the Dubai Gold Cup and the Ascot Gold Cup.

Defoe
Defoe won the Listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton Park in 2017 before going on to a successful career, including victories in the Coronation Cup at Epsom and the Hardwicke Stakes at Ascot in 2019.

Kalpana
Kalpana has enjoyed notable success at Hamilton Park, specifically in 2024 where she won the listed Glasgow Stakes race under jockey P. J. McDonald. After her success at Hamilton Park Kalpana went on to become a Group 1 winner at Ascot were she won the 2025 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes.

Hunter’s Light
Hunter’s Light won the Listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton Park in 2011 as a three-year-old, ridden by Paul Makin. He went on to achieve Group race success in both the UAE and Italy.
JOCKEYS

Sir Gordon Richards
Sir Gordon Richards, a 26-time Champion Jockey, was one of the defining figures of British Flat racing. His era of dominance coincided with the early decades of Hamilton Park, helping to represent the golden age of the sport at the course.

Anne, Princess Royal
Anne, The Princess Royal, rode at Hamilton Park on two occasions, most notably taking part in a charity race during the 1980s. Her appearances drew significant public attention and added a distinctive Royal connection to the racecourse’s modern history, reflecting her well-known passion for equestrian sport.

Joe Fanning
Joe Fanning is one of Hamilton Park’s most successful and familiar riders, having won the Glasgow Stakes at the course in 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2020. He is the winning-most jockey in the racecourse’s history, with an outstanding total of 197 victories at Hamilton Park.

Paul Mulrennan
Paul Mulrennan is one of the leading jockeys at Hamilton Park in recent seasons, regularly partnering winners in feature races and competitive handicaps. He was crowned Champion Jockey at the course in both 2022 and 2025 and currently sits third on the all-time list of winning-most jockeys at Hamilton Park, with a total of 111 winners to his name.

Andrew Mullen
Andrew Mullen is a Scottish Champion jockey with a strong and consistent record at Hamilton Park, established across multiple seasons. One of the course’s most reliable and successful riders, he was crowned Hamilton Park’s Champion Jockey in 2024.

Aime Waugh
Aime Waugh is one of Scotland’s leading female jockeys, with a strong record of notable winners at Hamilton Park in recent seasons.

Willie Carson
Scottish-born multiple Champion Jockey who rode at Hamilton Park during his distinguished career. He participated in a race on July 8th 1993 where he won with the horse Hamas.

Pat Eddery
Legendary jockey who won the Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton Park in 1992 and 1993 aboard Polish Blue and Commander in Chief.
