THERE was a local big-race success last night at Hamilton Park when Alright Sunshine landed the £25,000 Palmaris Services Braveheart Handicap for Carluke trainer Keith Dalgleish.
Billy Garritty gave the 100/30 chance a nice, patient ride as the combination held the late challenge of the 7/4 First Impression by a neck.
“I rode him here last time when he finished fifth and I thought we got there a bit too soon so I’ve given him a bit more cover on the inside tonight,” said the winning jockey, who also rides over jumps. “He can get a bit a lonely so I said to Mr Dalgleish it might be an idea to sit on him a little longer and it’s worked a treat.
“He’s won a few bumpers and won at up to two miles on the Flat but he’s also a horse with plenty of speed. Hopefully he’ll be back jumping and winning over hurdles soon.”
Elisha Whittington and Shaun Lycett teamed up for their first Hamilton Park winner with The King’s Steed in the Hampton By Hilton Hamilton Park Handicap.
The winning rider said: “He was very game for me and he really battled when he saw the second horse come at us. I nearly won on him at Chelmsford in January last year when we were second to Jamie Osborne’s good horse Brains.”
