Racing Report

MAHRAJAAN was an impressive winner of the £33,500 Phoenix Utilities Ltd Lanark Silver Bell Handicap at Hamilton Park on Friday night.

Despite getting tightened up against the far rail after passing the 2f pole, the William Haggas-trained 6/5 favourite quickened up well to slam Love Is Golden by two and quarter lengths.

Winning jockey Paul Hanagan said: “It all got a bit tight late but my goodness he’s won pretty well in the end. He’s travelled like the good horse he is and he must have a tremendous future.”

Ben Curtis received a three-day careless riding ban for allowing Love Is Golden to drift right onto the rail with sufficient correction.

Newmarket-based Haggas had earlier struck with equally impressive Sweet Believer in the fillies’ handicap to give stable apprentice Adam Farragher his first course success.

Keith Dalgleish-trained Mi Capricho romped away with the PDM Buildbase Handicap to record his fourth victory of the campaign under fine positive ride from Callum Rodriguez.

“He’s had an amazing season and this course really suits him,” the winning jockey said. “He takes you there running down the hill and you can fill his lungs in the race for home.”
