Former Champion Amateur Jockey, Carol Bartley takes the reins as the new Clerk of the Course at Hamilton Park and will oversee her first fixture at the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation Family Raceday on Sunday 7 May.
Having retired from the saddle after three decades as an amateur jockey where she triumphed as a three-time champion woman rider, Carol joined the team at Hamilton Park in 2022 to begin training as a Clerk of the Course under the experienced eye of Harriet Graham. Having always worked in the racing industry, Carol’s passion and commitment to the sport shone through as she passed her final assessment with flying colours.
Carol Bartley said,” I can’t wait for our first fixture on Sunday 7 May. Racing has been a large part of my whole adult life and it is an industry that I feel I was born to be in. I’m immensely proud to be appointed as Clerk of the Course at Hamilton, which is where I had my first ride as an amateur. The training programme and assessments set out by the British Horseracing Authority and Racecourse Association are quite rightly thorough and detailed, but I really enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to what I’m sure will be an exciting season.”
Ashley Moon, Racecourse Managing Director said,” We are incredibly proud of Carol’s achievement, qualifying as Clerk of the Course in under a year. Carol showed fantastic commitment to her training and development under Harriet Graham, who has been an invaluable member of the team here at Hamilton over the past three years, especially during the pandemic.
Carol has a real passion for the horse racing industry, which is shown in her work ethic and her achievements to date. The opportunity for Carol to take the reins as Clerk of the Course is one that I am sure she will take in her stride and I am sure she has a bright future for years to come at Hamilton Park.”
