Heineken UK Glasgow Stakes Racenight – Racing Preview

By Gordon Brown

TITLE is the top-rated runner in the British Stallions Studs EBF Glasgow Stakes, a Listed race worth £55,250 which has produced plenty of future stars in recent years.

Trained in Newmarket by Roger Varian and on a BHA mark of 103, he takes on four rivals over 1m 3f for a stable that was successful in 2017 with subsequent Group 1 winner Defoe.

Postponed, the 2014 scorer, went on to bag several major races worldwide and ended up earning almost £5m in prize money.

And last year’s hero Subjectivist went on to scoop this season’s Gold Cup at Royal Ascot for Mark Johnston, who is represented by Kings Prince, a colt who is unbeaten in both starts.

In a race that has seen the favourite successful seven times in the last decade, Title is equipped with blinkers for the first time following a third placed effort in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The traditional Fair Friday card also features the Heineken UK Scottish Stewards’ Cup, a handicap over six-furlongs, and a race that saw George Bowen scorch to the current track record of 1m.9.03s three years ago.

Last year’s winner and fourth, Meraas and Music Society, are in the line-up along with Staxton who came third in 2019.
