Iain Jardine is aiming for back-to-back wins in the historic Scullion Law Lanark Silver Bell Handicap, this time with recent course winner Tiernan. The Dumfriesshire trainer was successful in the £103,000 Hamilton Park Heritage Handicap last year with Paddy The Squire, who flies the flag for connections in the Ebor at York. “This was the aim after he was impressive in a novice race over slightly shorter earlier this month,” Jardine said. “A lot was expected of him after he was a close third in the Glasgow Stakes last summer and it has helped that he has slipped down the weights a wee bit – we have also tinkered with one to two things so it has all come together for him.” A cracking race sees William Haggas bidding for his third victory with Cieren Fallon-ridden Yabher. The Newmarket raider wears a first-time tongue-tie as he tries to add to his trainer’s previous wins with Tifernati – in the first renewal of the race when it was revived at Hamilton Park in 2008 – and La Yakel two years ago. Charlie Johnston’s father Mark, now the chairman at Hamilton Park, enjoyed five victories in the 1m 4f contest and he is double-handed with Evanesco and Elsass. And Jim Goldie, winning trainer in 2022 with 14/1 chance Wickywickywheels, also saddles two runners in the shape of   Altareq and Letsbefrank, who recently landed the £100,000 Sky Bet Sunday Series Bonus for the second successive year. There is also a seriously competitive line-up for the £20,000 Acrisure Handicap over the minimum trip of five-furlongs. Course and distance form is boasted by Parisiac, Canon’s House, Vantheman and Jordan Electrics, who has nine wins to his name at the South Lanarkshire venue. But he has some way to to catch Irish Dancer, who is after her 13th course strike off bottom-weight in division two of the Patersons Of Greenoakhill Handicap.
