GROUNDBREAKING SILK SERIES WEAVES ITS WAY TO HAMILTON
Course is handpicked for a Scottish round of female jockey’s race series
Hamilton Park Racecourse will host a race in the celebrated Silk Series for female jockeys as part of its Scottish debut this summer.
Announced on International Women’s Day (Thursday 8 March), the race will feature at the Lanarkshire racecourse’s premier fixture, the EK, East Kilbride Ladies’ Night featuring Heather Small and Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo on Saturday 4 August.
Event organiser Arena Racing Company, the largest racecourse group in the country, has extended the initiative north of the border following the success of the inaugural Silk Series in 2017.
The Silk Series aims to showcase talented female riders and change attitudes in the sport. Jockeys taking part win points based on their finishing position in each race, with the winner having accrued the most points over the course of the series.
Sulekha Varma, Racing Manager at Hamilton Park Racecourse, said: “The Silk Series provides a fantastic platform for the many talented female jockeys in the UK to show their ability.
“We’re honoured to be one of the first racecourses in Scotland to host the Series and think it will enrich our already stellar offering at Ladies’ Night, on and off the course.
“It’s a great way to increase the profile of women in our sport and we look forward to seeing some fantastic racing talent across the board this season.”
The Silk Series will add to an already action-packed evening at Ladies’ Night this year, with catwalk shows, exclusive shopping, prizes and superb performances adding to the action.
Gates will open at 3pm on Saturday 4 August for the EK, East Kilbride Ladies’ Night with Heather Small & Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo, with early bird tickets on sale now at www.hamilton-park.co.uk, from just £25 for adults if booked before 31st May.
