ON a BHA mark of 97, Mr Colonel is the top-rated runner in the £80,000 Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Glasgow Stakes as he drops back to 1m 3f. Jointly-trained by Richard & Peter Fahey, he was third in the Group 3 Chester Vase before finishing ninth in the Group 2 Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot over 1m 6f. In a race with a rich history of producing Group 1 winners, the likely favourite is Superior Choice, only the third course ride for Shane Foley, representing John & Thady Gosden,  who struck last year with Nahraan. A 1.1m gns yearling, he was a comfortable winner of both starts in maiden and novice company this season and holds an entry in the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York next month. Other interesting contenders are Andrew Balding’s Prizeland and James Fanshawe-trained Plaid, who shattered the Hamilton Park 1m 1f track record when blitzing home by eight-lengths in a fillies’ handicap in May.

The other feature race is the £37,500 Jordan Electrics Scottish Stewards’ Cup, a handicap over six-furlongs. Jim Goldie’s Jordan Electrics, set a new track record on his way to victory two years ago while Michael Dods-trained Commanche Falls, the 2021 hero, is also in the line-up.
